My grandmother took a lot of wonderful recipes to the grave. I always thought it was just because she wanted to be the only one to do something special for her family. She did tell my mom a lot of the good stuff she cooked, and also my sister.
I'm like you though, if I find a good recipe, or find a good way to make something on my own, I tell people. I used to make chili the same way my mom and grandmother did, but I started experimenting with it and to me, it's just better. So I told people how to do it, now my mom will make it most of the time the way I do it. But for some occasions, we still do it my grandma's way. :)Why do some people not want to share their ';secret'; recipes?
Personally, i only have one ';secret'; recipe. It's a wonderful fabulous dessert that has been a secret in my family for many generations. It goes back at least 4 generations that i know of. There are two reasons i would never give it up. One is that i would feel like i was ruining a tradition. Two is that it gives me the opportunity to cook for people. I have people call me up just to make this for them, because they love it so much. Cooking for somebody, especially confections, is a very warm, meaningful experience for me, and i like that my secret recipe gives me an excuse.
Some people wish to keep recipes a secret if they're an old family recipe, passed down from generaton to generation. They have the right not to share it, if that's the case.
its cause their meanies.... they dont have much going for themselves and these are what makes them special.......Its a shame imagine in a few generations everyone will buy everythin in a bag and just add water, i miss my moms cooking and the old lady's next door
because they are a secret
Cuase of their EGO, they just wanna be one-uppers
I don't know why either! I think it's silly! I always share recipes with my friends! That's fun! Some people are just wierd.....
It's SO special to have a recipe that everyone likes and you are the only one who knows it. If it's shared, it won't taste as good--it's not as exclusive!
hi .....this question has a simple answer......its obvious that there stingy and that they dont want 2 give there recipe out because then it wont make them the only ones with something special, you get it??? this question reminds me of myself..........for exaample ,when i get the hottest shoes and nobody has them i feel special unique, diffrent,so when they ask me were i got them from i simply say I DONT NO . that way nobody can COPY ME ...see it is much like a secret recipe.hope that helped! by3
secret recipes is a way to make money...
because they involve marijuana
For the same reason I am not going to share my husband
Make your own collection
In addition, people can take your recipes, publish them, and make money from them. You know that. Not everybody in this world is honest. It hurts when people take advantage of your trust. And, you don't always want to chase down a problem with copyrights and plagiarism. It just makes matters worse. Better to skip it altogether.
There are the sharers there are those who don't believe in sharing, not all for the same reasons, they feel justified in what they are doing %26amp; they do not owe an explanation to anyone,to each his own.
Sometimes a recipe is handed down from generation to generation. When immigrant families came to this country a lot of them had nothing of value and were coming here to start a family and create something all their own. I believe secret family recipes stems from one generation wanting to pass something valuable down to their children and their grand children. They didn't have jewels or property but they had this recipe that they got from their mother in ';the old country';.
I agree with you that when I find something new I want to share it with the world. Sometimes I try a new recipe and I will call my girl friends and cherish in my excitement! But I also see why people like to keep their Nana's ';secret sauce'; a secret. It's a bout pride. It's about family. It's about owning something knowing else has.
As far as keeping random recipes a secret well I think you were on the right track and some people just like being the winner of their own competition.
Have a great day! ;-)
I can't speak for everyone, but I keep mine secret because eventually I want to go into a food business. It may not happen, and I do share them with my kids...but I don't want everyone being able to copycat my recipes before I'm open for business.
my boyfriend does that! he is always going on about a secret ingredient in recipes he cooks for me. when i asked him why he keeps them secret he said that otherwise he wouldn't be able to cook the special meals since i would know how to make them myself.
