I have some old recipes using Roman meal. Does anyone know what this is and/or if it is still available?

A friend has asked me to translate her late grandmother's recipe book so she can make some of the recipes she remembers from her childhood. She is not an experienced cook and the recipes list just the ingredients with minimal (sometimes no) cooking directions. At least 20 of the cake recipes call for Roman meal. Apart from a company manufacturing health bars/cereals I can find no reference to Roman meal on Internet. I assume that it is some sort of flour or other grain product. It could be simply a brand name for a generic product. My friend lives in USA and I grew up in Australia so it may just be that Roman meal is a US brand name for a familiar product. I wrote to my friend but neither she nor her mother could tell me what Roman meal is/was. I am keen to help my friend with her recipes but at this stage I can't do much with the recipes calling for Roman meal. In the US, Roman Meal is a favourite kind of bread....wheat bread....and it's delicious....It is a brand name tho...
It's 100 percent whole wheat flour so you can substitute it with any other brand of whole wheat flour.
Roman meal could derive from an old italian recipe..and could be once popular in those days. Your best bet is to obtain a recipe book that contain some ancient recipes. And can include escargot.
use whole wheat flour to replace it. It is just a flour mix.

I used to eat roman meal as a kid and remember it as being sort of like bran. And yes I think it's still around in the oatmeal section of the store.
Roman Meal is corn meal, if you go back in the RomanEmpire History this is what they used!

There is a product called Red River Cereal. It has all the kinds of seeds what you might be looking for. Just look at a box in the cereal section, and read it. This might help, I sure hope so.
